Obviously, the Mississippi is a great place to fish for a variety of species, but our area also has a number of creeks that are a trout fisherman’s dream. In fact, we have some of the best trout fishing in Iowa. Below, we’ve listed a few of our favorite fishing locations, with details on fish species, relevant fishing regulations, and location access. Bloody Run Creek
Bloody Run Creek is just over three miles from Nauti Marina, off Highway 18. This is an excellent location to fish for brown trout, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, and white sucker. Season is continuous. Daily bag limit for trout is five, with no limit on white sucker. Note that some areas only allow the use of artificial lures.
While some sections of the creek are on private property, public access can be found at Bloody Run County Park. The park has a picnic area and clean restrooms. In addition, it’s a great place from which to shorefish.
Buck Creek
Buck Creek is about 11 miles from Nauti Marina, northeast for Garnavillo, Iowa. Here, you can fish for rainbow trout, brown trout, and white sucker. Season is continuous. Daily bag limit for trout is five, with no limit on white sucker. A trout fee is required to fish for trout. Public access to Buck Creek is readily available at Buck Creek Area Park. The park has restrooms, and you can shorefish at the park. Note that some parts or Buck Creek are on private property.
North Cedar Creek
North Cedar Creek is a small stream seven miles from Nauti Marina, just off Country Road B60 or Ivory Road. This is an excellent trout stream, with brook trout, rainbow trout, and brown trout in abundance. Season is continuous. Daily bag limit for trout is five, and you have to pay a trout fee to fish for, or possess, trout. North Cedar Creek does not have any nearby facilities, but it does offer heavy tree cover.
Sny Magill Creek
Just six miles from Nauti Marina, off Keystone Road, Sny Magill Creek contains brown trout, rainbow trout, and white sucker. Fishing season is continuous. Daily bag limit for trout is five, with no limit on white sucker. You are required to pay a trout fee to fish for trout. Sny Magill Creek is a great place to do shorefishing. No public facilities are particularly close to the creek.
Turkey River
Turkey River is about 20 miles from Nauti Marina at the Big Spring Trout Hatchery. Here, you can expect to find smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, and brown trout. You can even do some walleye fishing here. Fishing season is continuous. Daily bag limits are as follows: five for brown trout and rainbow trout, three for bass, and five for walleye. Restrooms and a boat launch are nearby. You do have to pay a trout fee to fish for trout.
Mississippi River
The Nauti Marina is on the Mississippi River. Obviously, the Mississippi provides an abundance of fishing opportunities that will vary from one part of the river to another. We’re part of Pool 10, which runs from Guttenberg, Iowa to Lynxville, Wisconsin. Here, you have the chance to fish for a number of species: largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, black crappie, white crappie, bluegill, and freshwater drum. Channel catfish and flathead catfish are also plentiful. Fishing season is continuous. Bag limits vary by species. There are no limits on catfish or drum. Crappie and bluegill have a daily bag limit of 25. Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass both have daily bag limits of five. Note that an Iowa fishing license allows you to fish on the Iowa side of the Mississippi River.
